Charissa Owens
Charissa Owens is a Louisiana-based abstract expressionist artist known for her distinctive, hand-molded edging technique on canvas. Drawing inspiration from the colors and textures found in the world around her, her work often explores soft, layered palettes filled with nuanced hues, tones, and subtle contrasts. Through an intricate process of building texture with mixed media, watercolor, and unexpected tools, she creates pieces that evoke a sense of elegance, calm, and quiet movement. Her compositions reflect a balance of spontaneity and intention, shaped by a keen eye for pattern, detail, and the beauty found in everyday moments.
Creativity has been a constant thread throughout Charissa’s life, influenced early on by a family that encouraged artistic exploration in many forms. From sketching alongside her architect uncle to experimenting with materials alongside her grandfather, she developed a deep appreciation for both structure and imagination. She went on to study art in high school and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, further refining her artistic voice. Today, she balances life as a wife, mother of three, and art educator while continuing to create from her home studio and at River Oaks Arts Center—always exploring new ways to translate what she sees into thoughtful, expressive works of art.
