Dawn Newbern

For more than 27 years, Dawn Newbern has built a creative life around color, imagination, and the belief that art should bring joy to the spaces in which we live. 
Based on St. Simons Island, Georgia, Dawn is a contemporary artist and designer known for her expressive color, playful sophistication, and distinctive perspective. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, her paintings range from whimsical florals and coastal subjects to layered abstracts, each filled with the vibrant color and movement that define her work.
Dawn’s creativity extends beyond the canvas into fabric, wallpaper, and product design, bringing her patterns, palettes, and imagery into beautifully layered interiors and everyday life. Whether painting a large-scale canvas, developing a textile pattern, or imagining a collection, her approach remains intuitive: begin with color, trust the process, and create something that makes people feel good.
Her work has found its way into homes and collections across the country and abroad, yet Dawn remains deeply connected to the coastal Georgia community that inspires her. As the founding artist and owner of Julep Gallery on St. Simons Island, she brings together her love of art, interiors, and creative community.
At the heart of Dawn’s work is a simple idea: beautiful things can make us happier. She wants her paintings to feel collected rather than complicated, sophisticated without being serious, and—above all—full of life.
